Rogers Pixel Hotel
Aim
Rogers aims to provide a comprehensive experience of the history within Sherwood, a suburb south-west of Brisbane.
Vision
An experience combining the historical aspects of the building and suburb, from its initiation, lumbering the Sherwood forests for timber, through the building itself, which was an ice-works, serving drive-through ice for cold storage across the south and west of Brisbane.
Outcome
The site features a restored room above what is now a mechanics workshop. It features east- and west-facing windows for sunrise through to a warm sunset. The building is booked as a weekend stay, with a set itinerary, forcing users to vacate the space during the day. During this time, the room itself transitions from a warm, woody feeling to a cold, icy experience. This reinforces the feeling of leaving, as the users will not stay longer than this period.
